Finally, here is a post that doesn't deal with cute little Brayden!
I have never posted anything that has anything to do with politics, until now. If you don't want to read it I'm not making you! :)
Last night we had the t.v. on while we played with the baby and just kind of picked up around the house. Then, a news clip came on talking about how former President George H.W. Bush had been accepting an award (2008 Leadership Prize from the Dole Institute of Politics) at the University of Kansas earlier in the day. He sat down speaking with the man that was presenting him with the award in front of around 2,000 people. He covered a few topics, including the war in Iraq, he even wished President-Elect Obama well and told him to "not be deterred by the press and to do what he thinks is right." He was interrupted three different times by hecklers. A total of six people were escorted out of the building during the time he was speaking. I know 6 out of 2,000 people doesn't seem like much but it just rubs me the wrong way. Nobody, I'm sure, forced those people to come there and listen to him. That means that they came with the intent to give him a hard time. It is reported that the lady in the back that yelled out at him, the one in the video clip, was reading off of a paper. Mr. Bush, who is 84, said that no one would want to see their loved one torn up and beaten in the press like he had seen his own son. He made no excuses for him just simply said it was hard to watch that as a father. I'm sure any parent would agree. He is a former President as well as a husband, father, grandfather, etc. Everyone has been saying whether you like/agree with Obama that he is the soon-to-be President of the United States and that we should "give him the respect that he deserves." I totally agree with that statement. Obama is the new President and should be given total respect and a fair chance to lead the United States as he was the person elected for the job, like it or not! I was upset to hear that Bush was given a hard time during his award interview over things people were upset with his son for doing. He is just the father of the man that people are upset with. If they, the hecklers, were murderers or theives would their parent's be put on the chopping block or ,better yet, would they want their parent's to be put on the chopping block because of their actions? People need to respect that this man is just a DAD now. He is not the President anymore and he has no say in the actions of his son. He deserves the same respect, as well as his son does, for holding the office of President. People do not need to agree with him and what he did/didn't do... they just need to give him the respect he deserves as we are all human beings. All in all, I think Mr. Bush took the interruptions well, smiling and saying, " What's her problem? I can't hear her unfortunately, I am deaf and old." Like I said before, the man is 84 years old, and served as President almost SIXTEEN years ago?! Please people, grow up and give the man a break!
Click on the link there and it will take you to a Kansas news station website. The video is about two minutes long and is worth watching. The article is also on that page. I tried to load it on the post, but I couldn't find the video yet on You Tube.
